What’s the story?
Or to be more precise ‘How does it end?’
Because the most important part of any film is what happens when it’s finished – what do you want the viewer to understand, feel or do?
So, in a career that has spanned five decades, Bruce has started most projects thinking about how it ends.
Once he knows the ending he can work out how to tell the story – whatever the topic or audience – telling the story creatively, clearly and concisely, so that everyone understands the outcome (no-one wants a cliff hanger when it comes to their safety and wellbeing).
So, Bruce’s philosophy when it comes to making films, is pretty much – creative ideas, simple process, happy ending.
But what is Bruce’s story and where has that philosophy taken him?
Having studied and worked as a photographer and video producer for British Steel’s In-house unit, Bruce helped set-up a commercial video production venture for the company, continuing to meet internal video production requirements whilst offering services to a wide range of external clients.
This was a story that took Bruce filming throughout the UK as well as across Europe, to North America and Africa. A journey that not only involved trains, planes and automobiles but also the odd helicopter and a lifeboat.
Over 20 years Bruce was involved in 750 productions for marketing, training, health & safety and internal communications projects, working closely with stakeholders within British Steel as well as clients such as BP, Network Rail, Lloyds Bank, Nestle and Pedigree Pet Foods.
In the next chapter Bruce set-up his own company – Muddy Boot Productions – continuing to work with international clients on a variety of productions whilst also integrating closer with Lattitude Safety.
The story continues (as Bruce isn’t looking at the end of this one yet) so here’s to telling your story next.
