Leadership in Safety – Giants

We agreed that the people who shape the culture of an organisation are those who have a leadership role; from the top down. Therefore, we would commence the training element of any programme with Leadership in Safety workshops.

As well as the established management personnel and supervisors, you can include others with a leadership role such as Union Reps and Safety Reps.

We can offer either a half day or full day workshop – clearly the more time we have the more opportunity to make the workshop interactive and with more opportunity for debate and discussion.

Our half day and one day Leadership workshops are the critical first step in a culture change programme.
The message for Management is simply “Don’t expect them to change until you do”
Our workshops focus on Key Leadership Behaviours and how Management and others in a leadership role influence the perceptions of the workforce through their actions and behaviours, through the things they say and do, and they way they say and do them.

  • An introduction to behavioural safety
  • An introduction to safety culture and the critical link between behaviour and culture
  • A powerful case study on safety culture using our film; “Hindsight – Ken Woodward’s Story” which illustrates the need for safety, the link between behaviour and culture, how culture is shaped by the leaders, and the legal, moral and economic consequences of getting it wrong
  • Management’s influence over the culture – a reflection on how management lead by example whether they mean to or not and how the little things they do can have a big effect on people’s perceptions of what is important and valued
  • Giants of Leadership. This powerful film illustrates some of the key elements of leadership which allows us to focus on what is needed to begin culture change
  • Leadership Charter – a collective commitment to these first steps towards change and the fulfilling of behaviours which will demonstrate leadership and commitment to improving safety.

You will achieve the level of safety performance that you demonstrate you want
